Las Vegas is a popular tourist destination. More than 36 million tourists visit the city every year, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. With almost 150,000 hotel rooms to choose from, there’s no shortage of lodging options. Government employees should keep in mind that they may be eligible for government rates or discounts at specific hotels. Several offer discounted nightly rates through the FedRooms Federal Premier Lodging program.

The Best Western Mardi Gras Inn and Casino is located a block from the Las Vegas Strip and within walking distance of the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Las Vegas Monorail. The hotel’s 107 rooms feature television with premium cable channels, microwaves, refrigerators, coffeemakers and free local calls. The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, located on the Las Vegas Strip, offers a government discount rate of $109 per night, as of August 2010. The Golden Nugget offers 2,300 rooms and suites. Room features vary, but can include pillow-top mattresses, flat-screen televisions, pay-per-view movies, Internet access and wet bars. Dine at the hotel’s seven restaurants, including a Vegas-style buffet, a seafood restaurant set around an aquarium, a Teppanyaki steakhouse and a sushi bar.
