ISO, which stands for Innovative Styling Options, is a division of Zotos International Inc., which creates lines of perms, styling products and hair color for salon professionals. ISO has two lines of hair color; the i. Luminate line and the i. Color line. Each provide vibrant color options and are available in salons throughout North America (Reference 3).

ISO i. Luminate Hair Color

ISO's i. Luminate is their demi-permanent hair color line. A demi-permanent hair color is much like a semi-permanent hair color in that it is a deposit-only hair color that will only deposit a color darker than your own natural hair color. The benefits of a demi-permanent hair color is that they are designed to last longer than typical semi-permanent hair colors that can fade in as little as three weeks if the hair is washed daily. As with semi-permanent hair colors, ISO's i.Luminate hair color is ammonia-free and will not damage the hair. The color is applied from root to tip and is left on the hair for 20 minutes to process. It is available in a wide range of colors, including clear for those who want to add shine to their natural hair color without changing their existing color (Reference 1).

ISO i. Color

ISO i. Color is the permanent hair color line from ISO. ISO i. Color is designed with tri-active technology that conditions the hair while it colors for softer, healthier hair. This hair color also contains what the company calls “Triple-C” which seals in the color to protect from fading. This is especially important for red-hued hair colors, which tend to fade the quickest. As with any permanent hair color, the ISO i. Color is typically applied with one of two techniques. For first-time applications on virgin hair, the color is applied to the mid-shaft of the hair first, then the roots, and then the ends of the hair. The heat from the scalp often quickens the color's processing time, which is why the roots are colored after the mid-shaft. The ends of the hair, unless on short hair, is often dryer and more porous and will also process more quickly. For retouch applications, the color is applied to the roots first and left to process for the recommended time. In the last 10 minutes of the processing time, the color is often applied to the mid-shaft and ends to refresh the color if it has faded (Reference 2).

Choosing the Right ISO Color

Choosing between ISO's demi-permanent and permanent hair color will depend on what you need from your hair color. As explained, demi-permanent hair color is deposit-only, therefore, if you wish to lighten your hair color, you must use the permanent i. Color line. The i.Color line is also recommended for those who have 30 percent or more gray hair to cover. Permanent hair color has the ability to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft and provide more consistent gray coverage. Those who like to change their hair colors often, or who have previously damaged or dry hair should choose the demi-permanent line.
