Kosher Restaurants in the Catskill Mountains of New York State

Kosher Restaurants in the Catskill Mountains of New York Statethumbnail
Kosher restaurants exist in many out-of-the-way places, including the Catskills of New York.

Jews who observe the kashruth laws ("keeping kosher") must plan their restaurant excursions carefully to ensure that the restaurant where they eat has an acceptable kashruth certification. Eateries that cater to individuals who keep kosher must use only kosher ingredients and maintain rabbinical supervision. The Jewish community of the Catskill Mountain region supports several kosher restaurants for local residents and visitors.

Given those restrictions, Simply Sushi has created a wide sushi menu for people who come to the Catskills and wish to eat elegant kosher sushi. Simply Sushi doesn't use any meat or milk in the preparation of their sushi, but has creatively crafted a variety of options for visitors and locals alike to enjoy. Simply Sushi also has branches in Cederhurst and Brooklyn. The Monticello Simply Sushi outlet offers white and brown rice sushi that include vegetables, several varieties of kosher fish and tempura. Patrons can order sushi to go and enjoy it with their Sabbath meals in their Catskill bungalows.

      Fellers 4-Corners Pizza

      • Fellers has become a landmark kosher eatery in Woodridge, where they serve pizzas to the visitors who flock to the area every summer. In addition to pizza, the pizzeria serves a few other side dishes and drinks, though their reputation has been built on the success of their pizzas. The store sells only dairy or "parve" (non-dairy and non-meat) foods in keeping with Jewish dietary laws that forbid the mixing of meat and milk. While many kosher eateries close during the non-summer months when the observant Jewish visitors don't come to the Catskills region, Fellers has tried, in recent years, to keep the pizzeria open throughout the year with soups and other winter-type foods

      Le Chocolat

      • When the first Le Chocolat shop opened several years ago, three Monsey New York residents decided to open a franchise in the Catskills. They opened a small shop in Woodbourne and serve the Orthodox visitors who flock to the Catskills during the summer months, as well as individuals who don't particularly want kosher food but love a good chocolate dish. Le Chocolat uses kosher Swiss chocolate and serves only dairy or parve dishes. Le Chocolat also prepares gift boxes of chocolates for special occasions and holidays. They use "cholov yisrael" milk products, milk that has been specially supervised by a kashruth supervisor
