Super Bowl Ideas for Bars

Whether your bar is typically overflowing with patrons or barely holds a group of regulars, focusing on current events can help get business to a steady level and create a network of loyal customers. Super Bowl Sunday is one key day worth focusing on. Even those who may have planned to stay home and watch the game from their sofas might be lured in with the right promise.

Happy Hour

  • A common tactic used by bars everywhere, Happy Hour typically refers to a pre-announced time between 3 and 8 p.m. during which customers can enjoy complimentary snacks---like popcorn and chips---and get drinks at a discount. This is valuable as part of Super Bowl Sunday as patrons won't want to leave in the middle of the game. You'll put in a small investment by providing snacks, but patrons will stay for the remainder of the game and purchase drinks and food to keep their energy up.

  • The competitive bug is alive and well during the Super Bowl. Take advantage and get customers riled up with some trivia about the history of the Super Bowl. Write questions on a board or on a handout and have patrons return them. Offer a free appetizer as a prize to make customers thirsty enough to buy another drink.

  • Try tailgating in the parking lot before the game. Bar regulars will get a kick out of the change of scene, and you'll attract new customers with the smell of burgers and the crowd of people in front of your establishment. Offer burgers and hot dogs for free or give patrons a coupon for a free beer with each barbecue purchase. Make sure you check the applicable laws in your area before offering free drinks.

Post-Game Entertainment

  • If halftime isn't enough of a show for your patrons, offer some post-game entertainment. Hire local comedians, bands and other acts for a brief show after the game. Or opt for an "After the Game Open Mic" where local comedians can give their thoughts or reenactments of their favorite Super Bowl commercials.
