From Sonoma to San Diego, the California Missions offer beautiful adobe buildings and unique arched architecture, graceful gardens with fountains and ornate Catholic churches, along with historical museums on site. The California Missions were constructed down the West Coast between the late 1700's and the early 1800's, and they tell the story of early California. Spanish explorers, Mexican priests, Native Americans, and European settlers all embarked on this area during the Spanish, Mexican and then American ownership of these lands. There are several virtual tours of the missions online. A Virtual Tour of the California Missions website offers pictorial tours of paths most visitors take inside the mission grounds, maps and descriptions of all the missions. The California Mission Site's virtual tour includes historical photographs and music from the missions, along with links to other California Mission resources.
