10 Reasons Why a Woman Stays Single

The single lifestyle appeals to women of all ages.

The single life is not only appealing to men. Historically, women have not had access to the same opportunities as men, which encouraged them to marry just to make a better life for themselves. Today, women have more options than ever, and among those options is the right to stay single, which comes with a variety of perks worthy of consideration.

  1. Career

    • Sometimes work comes first. An especially career-driven woman may choose to ignore the romantic side of her life and make an attempt to climb a corporate ladder or spend the majority of the day at the office. Her job may require frequent traveling or moving so that she does not have the chance to establish a serious relationship.

    Independence

    • For some women, the pride of supporting themselves is a big draw to being single. Living a happy, successful life without relying on assistance or help from anyone else has its own appeal.

    Spontaneity

    • A single woman has no boundaries or restrictions when it comes to making a decision. She has no pressure from a partner and can spend her time exactly as she pleases, no matter how spur of the moment her decisions may be. This can include taking unplanned out of town trips or vacations, throwing impromptu house parties or ignoring groceries for a week and choosing to eat out instead.

    Solitude

    • Some women simply prefer the privacy and peace that is best attained through living alone.

    Social Opportunities

    • Single women have more time for social activities, such as spending time with friends and family members, while a married couple has to make time for each other first and foremost, and is sometimes torn between their two families.

    Economic Benefit

    • With the same opportunities as men educationally and career-wise now, women no longer have the financial pressure to marry or choose a partner. This has not been the case historically, when women relied more heavily on men to provide for them.

    Fear

    • Whether due to personal insecurities, bad past experiences, or just the inability to commit to a relationship, some women stay single simply out of fear.

    Caution

    • Finding the right man to commit to in permanent fashion is a search that some women prefer to take more time with than others. Some single women do not plan on remaining single forever, but are in no hurry to leave the single life unless the perfect match comes along.

    Happiness

    • A married couple may experience additional happiness in life as a reaction to the marriage initially, but this wears off over time and each returns to the same level of happiness experienced by a single person, according to a Michigan State University study.

    Less Negative Impact on Self-Image

    • A study done by Duke University and the Pennsylvania State University revealed that a woman choosing to stay single today is not as likely to experience a negative impact on her self-image when friends or relatives suggest marriage as she might have been in the past.
