Psychology is the the science of studying human behavior and the function of the mind. Different areas of psychology exist, ranging from child psychology to criminal psychology. According to the American Psychological Association, there are approximately 93,000 psychologists in the United States alone as of 2010, with many more practicing in other parts of the world.

The American Psychological Association, or APA, is the largest professional association of psychologists in the world. The mission of the APA is to bring psychologists together and advance the science of psychology in all countries worldwide. The association was created in 1892 with less than 30 members. Today, approximately 150,000 psychologists are members of the organization.
APA is home to 54 sub-groups, each representing a specialized area of psychology. Examples of these groups include General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Behavioral Psychology. These divisions allow members to network directly with peers in their chosen specialty, sharing new ideas and information.

The International Association of Applied Psychology, also known as IAAPSY, represents over 2,000 different members from nearly 100 countries. To accommodate this wide global range of members, IAAPSY operates in multiple languages, with English and French being to two most common. The goal of the association is to connect psychologists from all over the world, enabling them to share valuable information regardless of their location.
IAAPSY offers specialized psychology workshops in multiple world regions, bringing professionals together to discuss the latest trends in the field. Every four years, the association assembles a world congress. This international event allows psychologists to meet in person, receive advanced training, and network.

National Association of School Psychologists

The National Association of School Psychologists, or NASP, is a group dedicated to creating positive and healthy environments for young people. As its name suggests, most members of the organization are educational psychologists who work in schools and community organizations.
Allowing school psychologists from different locations to network and share information is one the most important roles of NASP. Additionally, the group organizes training for professionals, including conferences during the summer and an annual national convention. A nationally-recognized professional certification is also offered by the organization.

Society of Behavioral Medicine

The Society of Behavioral Medicine, also called SBM, is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of how changes in thoughts can affect all areas of life, including illness and lifestyle. The organization was founded in 1978 and has around 2,000 members today. The society serves as a method of collaboration for behavioral professionals, enabling them to promote new advances and emerging ideas.
SBM has several sub-councils, each with a specific educational focus. A council for publications, for example, creates informational documents for use by the public, while a training and education council organizes career development programs for the society's members. An annual member networking meeting is also held every year.
