Chess Grants

Chess Grants thumbnail
Chess students or players who participate in competitions can often apply for grants.

Chess teaches students how to think and plan strategy. Many chess grants go toward supporting a current chess program or helping chess players with travel fees. Most of the grants are given out by private foundations, but some school districts may also provide funds for chess clubs at schools within their districts.

  1. Bakersfield City School District

    • The Bakersfield City School District Education Foundation offers a chess grant to schools within the district. This grant is given on a continual basis, and applications are due the last Friday of every month. Schools can receive up to $300 for chess programs of all sizes and grade levels. To qualify for the grant, educators must provide a description of needed materials and how they will be used. This grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis; funds will be distributed until they are exhausted. Educators must either mail or hand-deliver their applications; faxes are not allowed.
