Funky Formal Hairstyles
You're the independent and unconventional type. The girl more apt to admire Lady Gaga's style than that of mainstream pop stars. With a formal occasion coming up, now is your time to shine and show off how bold and individual you are. Whether you choose to spice up your style with a new haircut, splash of color, extensions or accessories, you're sure to be inspired by one of the following ideas. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Faux-Hawks
-
Faux-hawks are the cousin to the famous Mohawk, the spiky style that stands up on the crown of one's head with loads of gel. If you have short hair and the guts to pull it off, spiking the center of your hair in a Faux-hawk can make for a unique formal do. Smooth the sides away from your face or towards your face to make the hawk your own. For added formality, add a hair clip on the side.
Punk Style
-
Punk hair is usually classified by streaks of various colors, swooping bangs or jagged layers. To coordinate your hair with your formal wear, use colored hair extensions to tie it together or dip the tips of your hair in dye. Another wild option is to dye half your hair---top, bottom or one side---for a really dramatic look.

Braids
-
French braids, standard braids and fishbone braids are all unique ways to add some funk to your hairdo. To avoid a mainstream look with braids, try braiding only part of your hair and putting the rest into a wild ponytail or pinning up small ponytails all around your head.
Curls
-
Experiment with different sized curling irons. Mix and match curl sizes, or style parts of your hair stick-straight. An Afro of tiny, wild ringlets can be very unique, especially if coupled with color or accessories. Or, you can curl your hair towards the roots and leave the tips straight---creating a funky, electric look.
