Working with kids has a number of advantages.

Working with children has its rewards and benefits, such as knowing that you helped a child and put a smile on his face. Jobs are available that involve working with children of all ages, and some of them require you to work only a few hours every week. If you like working with kids, then consider a child-related career.

  1. Nanny

    • Nannies care for children when the parents are at work or out of town or just need extra help. The nanny may watch the children all day while the parents work or while a stay-at-home parent is getting a few hours of alone time. A full-time nanny has many more responsibilities, including taking the kids to doctors' appointments, picking them up from school and handling play dates. This type of nanny spends hours every day with children.

    Child Protective Services Agent

    • A Child Protective Services (CPS) agent works with multiple children, as well as parents and legal guardians. A CPS agent is called in to investigate cases of neglect or abuse in the home. The agent interviews the parents and also talks to the child, asking questions about the potential abuse. If the child is removed from the house, the agent is responsible for finding the child a temporary home and ensuring his future safety. The agent also testifies in court if the need arises.

    School Counselor

    • Elementary schools, junior high/middle schools and high schools all have a need for school counselors. The school counselor helps the child with school-related issues and problems at home and intervenes in cases of abuse at home or bullying situations at school. The counselor also helps teenagers make career or college plans and assists students with learning disabilities, preparing them for upcoming tests and handling any problems with teachers. School counselors must stay up to date on problems facing students and learn the warning signs for potential abuse.
