IMovie 7.1.4 Video Effects
Version 7.1.4 is a 2008 edition of Apple's iMovie software. Part of the iLife software suite, the iMovie program for Mac allows users to browse and organize their video media libraries as well as edit together clips and create movies. Users may select from more than one dozen varied effects---from color variations to overlays---that add extra creative and visual elements to their film creations.
-
Black and White
-
Black and white removes color from film images. Under the video effects tab in iMovie, users will find a black and white option. This option desaturates color images, causing the footage to display in black-and-white grayscale format. This effect gives film a classic look, and it might be used in a flashback sequence to differentiate between time periods.
Aged Film
-
Found under the film effects pane, aged film adds simulated lines, scratches and other imperfections to footage, giving it the look of weathered film stock. Slide controls heighten or lessen the intensity of the aged film effect.
-
Brightness and Contrast
-
In iMovie 7.1.4., brightness and contrast effects serve utilitarian and artistic purposes. By scaling brightness up or down, users may correct footage that is too dark or too bright. Contrast heightens the color difference between light and dark hues, making colors appear more vivid. As contrast increases, color variety decreases; increasing contrast to extreme levels gives footage a cartoon-like digitized look.
Earthquake
-
Like the environmental effect it takes its title from, the earthquake effect rocks the contents of the film frame. The effect shakes the onscreen image, occurring at first as gradual thumps in long intervals and eventually building to an intense prolonged shake. Users might employ this effect to foreshadow impending effects or simulate environmental instability.
Rain
-
The rain effect simulates falling rain. The rain effect simulates the appearance of raindrops, overlaying them on top of the video image. On the effects pane, sliders adjust the amount of rain and the force of the wind. Wind moves the direction of the rain from left to right. Users may apply this effect to give the appearance of foul weather or accent the prior existence of light rain. The rain effect only falls over the image; it does not splash or puddle on the ground.
Fairy Dust
-
The iMovie fairy dust effect appears as yellow particles moving across the screen in bottom-to-top formation. These sparkling fireballs move across video images. In the effects pane, users can change the central point from which the fairy dust appears. Customizable sliders determine the direction of the effect and the length of the trails left behind by the dust's individual particles.
