Commercial diving can be a career for ocean lovers who want a challenge.

Many people dream of making their passion into their job. For scuba divers and lovers of the deep sea, becoming a commercial diver is potentially very meaningful and satisfying work. Oil companies employ divers to work on underwater platforms; harbor and dam operators hire divers to perform maintenance and do underwater construction projects. Grants for completing your commercial diver certification and education are available, to help you get started in your new career.

  1. Association of Diving Contractors International

    • The Association of Diving Contractors International, a professional organization for commercial divers and companies, offers a scholarship to aspiring commercial divers. Applicants are nominated by paying members of the ADCI. The grants cover tuition costs for a commercial diver certification program. The awards vary somewhat from year to year; in 2010 there were two scholarships of $4,000 each.

    Women Divers Hall of Fame

    • The Women Divers Hall of Fame provides scholarships and training grants to women who show the potential to excel at professional SCUBA diving. Four scholarships from $1,000 to $2,500 are awarded annually directly to the participant. Up to nine training grants are also given, ranging from $500 to $1,500, paid to the school where the recipient enrolls. Women of all ages who are hoping to complete their commercial diver or diver instructor education are eligible.

    Commercial Diving Academy Scholarship

    • The Commercial Diving Academy awards a $1,000 scholarship toward its total Immersion training program. The scholarship is available to military veterans or active duty military members who want to train in professional diving.
