Scholarships for Chemistry Majors
A variety of scholarships are available to students majoring in chemistry and the chemical sciences. Professional organizations dedicated to the study of chemistry are one of the biggest sources of scholarship money for chemistry majors. Scholarships from these organizations may be limited to students pursuing a career in a specialized field, and may also be limited to students of a particular ethnic or racial background.

ACS Scholars Program

The American Chemical Society provides scholarships to undergraduate chemistry majors through the ACS Scholars Program. This renewable scholarship is awarded in amounts of up to $5,000 per year. To be eligible, a student must be African-American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American.
In addition, qualified students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, must demonstrate financial need, must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and must be planning to attend school full time. Pharmacy and pre-med students are not eligible.

Rubber Division Undergraduate Scholarships

The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society offers $5,000 scholarships to chemistry students pursuing careers in the rubber industry through the Rubber Division Undergraduate Scholarship Program. To be eligible, a student must be a junior or senior and must be majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science or another field that will prepare him for a career in the rubber industry. A student must have at least a B average to qualify. The annual deadline for application is March 1.

The Richard Goolsby Scholarship Fund

The Foundation for the Carolinas provides scholarship money to chemistry students pursuing a career in the plastics industry through the Richard Goolsby Scholarship Fund. To be eligible for this $4,000 annual scholarship, a student must be attending an accredited U.S. institution full time. Graduate and undergraduate chemistry and chemical engineering students are eligible. The annual deadline for application is Feb. 15.
