Mountain Bike Games

Mountain biking is for the adventurous.

Mountain biking is rough, dangerous and unpredictable. One must develop a great understanding of her bike before she can take it outdoors and ride to her full potential. The following games should only be performed by serious and advanced mountain bikers wearing the appropriate protective equipment.

  1. Contest

    • Mountain bikes are built to resist serious impact. Perhaps one of the most enjoyable things to do on a mountain bike is jump from a great height or a natural or man-made ramp. Set the rules of the contest ahead of time. See who can jump the highest, clear an object or a mud pit or perform the greatest trick such as jumping with no hands, no feet or both. For safety, make sure the landing area is free of rocks, branches and other dangerous objects. Riders should be able to bale safely in the event of an emergency.

    Race

    • A mountain bike race is fast, exciting and unpredictable. To make the race more suitable for beginners, a designated path should be laid out and each racer should ride the path one at a time. If the bikers are advanced riders, the path may be laid out where riders will have to work to avoid rocks, trees, branches and other objects. Each racer is timed separately and the rider that makes it to the finish line fastest is the winner. To add another variable, racers may ride at the same time, forcing them to pick the clearest and fastest route as they ride while avoiding colliding with one another. Races can be conducted on a variation of uphill and downhill terrain, on sand, soil, gravel or other surfaces.

    Obstacle Course

    • When given the time and materials, mountain biking through an obstacle course is both entertaining and rewarding. If the environment is fruitful, bridges, pits, jumps and other obstacles can be built. Advanced mountain bikers can ride down stairs made from strong tree branches or large stones, jump from one platform to another and avoid sinking mud pits. Riders can play on the obstacle course to see who can come up with the most creative ride or designate a starting and finishing point and conduct races.
