Shrek Party Games
The late William Steig introduced the character of Shrek in 1990 in his book "Shrek!". In 2001, DreamWorks released the first of four animated movies based on Steig's characters. These movies helped Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey and Puss-n-Boots become well-known and beloved characters by children around the world. Throw a Shrek party and welcome your guests to the land of Far Far Away. Does this Spark an idea?

Swamp Scum Stew Eating Contest
-
Give each player a pie plate filled with candy bugs and worms, covered with whipped cream and sprinkled with cocoa and green sugar. Loosely tie each player's hands behind his back while he eats his pan filled with the "stew." Blindfold players to make the game even more difficult. The player who finishes his stew first wins.
Traditional Games with a Shrek Theme
-
Take traditional birthday games and modify them to include a Shrek theme. Change Simon Says to Shrek Says, Donkey Says or Princess Fiona Says. Toss small plush cat toys into large boots for a Puss-n-Boots bean bag toss. Play Pin the Tail on the Donkey with a picture of Donkey from Shrek; create a different version of the game such as Pin the Crown on Princess Fiona. Place mushroom pictures on chairs or stools for a version of Musical Chairs called Musical Mushrooms, using the soundtrack from one of the Shrek movies.

Race to Save Fiona
-
Set up two similar obstacle courses. Have players walk through a swamp made from a baby pool, cross a river by walking across a balance beam, maneuver through a forest in a small wooded area and crawl through a tunnel made from a large refrigerator box or a sheet hung over a rope. Divide the guests into two teams. Instruct team members to stay together and help each other through the course. Leave a Princess Fiona doll for each team to rescue and take back through the course. The first team back to the start wins.
Save the Swamp
-
Divide the guests into two teams. GIve each player an identical container for water, such as a large water bottle. Give each team a bucket with a spout. Place the buckets on a chair 25 feet from the starting line. The first player starts with a container full of green- or brown-dyed water. She pours the water into her team's bucket and runs back to tag the next teammate in line. The second player runs to the chair and pours the water from the bucket into her bottle. Then the second player runs back to the line and pours the water from her bottle into the third player's bottle. The third player restarts the cycle by pouring the water back into the bucket. Teams win by being the first to finish or by having the most water at the end. For another version of the game, have younger children transfer water from one bucket to another bucket 25 feet away. The team that fills the second bucket fastest wins.
