Raffia Dolls for Craft Projects
Raffia is a natural material stripped from the leaves of a palm tree. Crafters can use raffia in place of fabric, twine and even paper. Durable, yet flexible, soft and easy to dye, raffia is often used to make raffia dolls. Make raffia dolls for Christmas gifts, housewarming surprises, teacher-appreciation presents or simply to decorate your country kitchen.

Raffia Doll Wreath
-
Affix a small raffia doll to the bottom center of a wreath. Add holiday-themed ribbons, or use a color that looks nice against your front door. Wrap the ribbon evenly around the wreath, finish with a large bow. The raffia doll can be embellished with small items from the craft store to create a particular theme. For example, you can consider placing miniature garden tools in the doll's hands for a garden-themed wreath. Several artificial flowers can be added to the wreath to complete the wreath.
Raffia Doll on a Swing
-
Set a raffia doll on a small homemade swing for a country-style decoration. Use a rectangular piece of wood for the swing base. Drill two holes on either side. Thread a rope through each hole, tying a knot at the end of each rope to hold the swing in place. Place a raffia doll on the swing. Attach the arms to the rope, as if it is holding on. Display this decoration over a kitchen sink, in a bathroom or a child's bedroom.

Raffia Doll Angels
-
Raffia dolls can be decorated with angel wings and a halo. Purchase a set of angel wings from a craft store, or make your own with iridescent fabric stretched over a bent wire base. Hang a large raffia angel doll on your door or wall as a Christmas decoration. Make several small raffia angel dolls to hang on the Christmas tree, or to affix onto presents.
Raffia Scarecrow
-
Build your own raffia doll scarecrow for your kitchen, yard or front porch. Use raffia, dish cloths and a piece of tan fabric for the face. Wrap raffia inside the dish cloth and roll up to make a tube for the arms. Create the body and legs with two more dish cloth and raffia tubes. Cover the top of the torso with a rectangle of fabric to create a head for the scarecrow. Tie the fabric on with a piece of string to make the neck. Draw on a face and place a doll's hat on top. Stick a dowel up through the center to of the raffia scarecrow and place in a pot of mums or other plant.
