Canadian Government Youth Jobs
Young people often have to compete with adults for summer jobs. Canada has put together several programs for youth so they may learn job skills and earn some money during the summer or throughout the year as interns. A number of different Canadian governmental bodies handle these employment and internship opportunities, including Youth Canada and Service Canada.

Canada Summer Jobs
-
Canada Summer Jobs helps students find jobs with mostly non-profit and public sector employers, but some students will also be placed within small businesses that have fewer than 50 employees. The goal of this program is to provide summer work for students and provide them with work experience to get them ready to enter the workforce once they graduate. The organization also helps companies by increasing the awareness of company's job openings. Students must be paid a decent wage, and companies should provide students with work experience related to their field of choice. Other criteria for employers include that they must serve the local community.

Federal Public Sector Youth Internship Program
-
The Federal Public Sector Youth Internship Program is a partnership between Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and the YMCA and this program seeks to offer students internships in federal government organizations. The target group for this program is young people ages 15 through 30 that are either unemployed or under-employed. The goal of this programs is to help these young people gain work experience and needed job skills so that they may fully enter the workforce. Interns must have a mentor, and they must be given opportunities to learn new skills. Internships are broken up amongst the different age groups with the most at-risk groups receiving preference. For example, 50 percent of the internships will be reserved for young people who either didn't complete high school or face other barriers to employment.
