Retail Display Components
When you are setting up shop, one of the most important considerations you will face is how to display your merchandise to the best advantage. Not only will you need a way to bring your merchandise to the attention of potential buyers, you will require retail display components that help you organize your products logically, keep them neat and out of harm's way, and make it simple for customers to remove items from the display and replace them without too much wear and tear.

Gridwall
-
Wall displays bring your merchandise selection to the customer's eye level. The walls of your retail establishment may well represent the greatest square footage of display area in your entire store, but in order to utilize it, you will need to add on a display system. Gridwall is one versatile choice. Gridwall racks are open-weave metal grids that you can purchase in various sizes to fit your wall space. You can attach them directly to the wall, then use hooks and hang-rods to display packets of merchandise. Attach such additional components as clear shelving or metal baskets to display other items.
Slatwall
-
For a somewhat more upscale look, you can use slatwall panels in much the same way. Slatwall is a wood laminate product that you can paint to match your store decor. It features horizontal slats in solid wallboard where you can add display hooks, acrylic shelves, garment hooks, and other items like literature pockets.

Floor Display Racks
-
A clothing rack is a great way to keep clothing neat and visible to shoppers. Both gridwall and slatwall come in floor display racks as well as wall applications. However, the display rack industry offers many more choices, from metal to wood to plastic. If you carry greeting cards, you will certainly need a rack that keeps all cards visible, clean and flat. Many gourmet food stores use attractive basket display stands where merchandisers fill different baskets with their wares. Clothing racks, book racks, and racks with bins to hold small items are some other display components you can choose from.
Display Cases
-
Display cases keep food items germ-free and fresher. Retailers often keep their most fragile and/or expensive merchandise in enclosed display cases. Gift shops display collectible figurines in cases to prevent breakage or theft. Jewelers use locking display cases due to the value of their goods. Antique dealers often place small pieces in countertop display cases where they are easier to keep track of. Many display cases are made mostly of glass or clear acrylic so customers can view the contents from all angles.
Unique Display Components
-
Use an interesting centerpiece around which to create an attention-grabbing display. Often a unique display will be the center of attention in your establishment. An antique armoire dressed with shelf linens makes an ideal display for kitchen items or bath products. A large paper parasol can draw shopper's attention to the merchandise it shelters, such as beachwear or toys. Use a weathered peddler's cart to display your spring line of home decor items.

Display cases are not just for the most expensive items. Often an inexpensive display case will give the salesperson a reference point to discuss the item with a patron.
