UFC Official Fighting Gloves Requirements
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a mixed martial arts event held in the United States. It involves competitors using many forms of fighting including judo, jiu-jitsu, karate, boxing, wrestling, muay thai, kickboxing and other disciplines to try and win the match. Matches are supervised by a referee. In order that it not be perceived as a street fight, the UFC is heavily regulated to avoid the criticism it has had in the past for brutality.

Glove Use
-
Under regulations of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, glove use is mandatory. This is to protect the hands of the fighters in the competition. Gloves were made mandatory in 1997.
Type of Glove
-
Competitors are limited to the use of Zuffa and 4-6 ounce gloves approved by the UFC commission. The gloves must be as least one inch thick and leave the fingers free, so that the fighters have the ability to grab. The style and material of the glove is up to the manufacturer, however most fighters opt for 100 percent leather gloves with an open palm and thumb.
-
Glove Size
-
These gloves must be designed to protect the fighter's hands, but not be large enough to improve the striking surface or the weight of the punch.
