Mediterranean Wall Colors

Mediterranean decor uses colors found near the sea.

Mediterranean decor combines colors from many regions and cultures. The look is primarily one built around the colors found in a warm, outdoor climate. When choosing wall colors for your rooms, remember to consider all of the different hues the Mediterranean has to offer. You can also enhance a room's Mediterranean mood and feel by adding a stucco texture to the walls. It may seem daunting, but once you decide what colors will work best with your current decor, you can select a wall color with confidence.

Sand and Shore

One of the best colors to use on your walls is related to the color beige. Colors that match sandy beaches can range from creamy to light taupes, and these neutral colors work well with almost any color scheme. You can even add tiny hints of other colors found in beaches, such as darker browns from driftwood or peaches from seashells. If you have yellow tones in your furnishings, choose a color that includes a yellow tint. If you have darker colors in your room, choose a creamier color to create contrast.

Sea and Sky

The light, transparent blues of the Mediterranean waters will give you a wide variety for the colors on your walls. You could also work with a bright cloud-white to practically every shade of summery blue captured in the sky. Light "sky colors" make rooms feel light and airy.

Flora

The lush, green colors of the Mediterranean landscape provide a wide variety of color for colors in your home. Muted shades of green found in cypress trees instantly warm rooms and give them character. The reds and purples associated with grapes are also good colors for walls. These colors work well for kitchens and bedrooms, where they inevitably send a message that the room is comfortable and welcoming.
