Infuse your Christmas tree with an artistic flair by hanging handmade bird-inspired ornaments. Use simple craft items to make shapes resembling your favorite type of birds. When it is cold and snowy inside, bring a bit of a summer indoors by displaying vibrant bird ornaments. Treat a bird, nature or garden enthusiast to a hand-crafted ornament as a holiday gift.
Hand-painted Ornament
-
Hand-painted bird-inspired ornaments made a big impact with minimal effort. Choose a clear or frosted glass ball-shaped ornament. Create vibrant robin, cardinal, hummingbird or bluejay designs on the ornament using acrylic craft paint and a small paintbrush. Enhance the ornament with one favorite bird, or include a variety of types. Use small letter-shaped stencils to write "Merry Christmas" and the year at the top of the ornament.
Patterned Paper Bird Ornament
-
Kids can help you make whimsical paper bird ornaments, which will enhance the Christmas tree with a country-inspired flair. Trace a bird shape onto a piece of high-quality patterned stationery paper using a stencil or template. Cut wing shapes out of plain white paper and glue them to either side of the bird pattern; both wings should be visible from the front. Glue a small bead, button or gem to the bird shape as an eye. Punch a hole in the top of the shape and loop a thin decorative ribbon through for hanging.
Felt Bird Ornament
-
A white dove-inspired ornament will add a peaceful touch to your holiday tree. Cut two identical dove shapes out of white felt, along with two matching wing shapes. Spread craft glue one side of each bird shape. Knot a piece of clear fishing line into a loop and sandwich it, along with the two wing shapes, between the two bird shapes and press them together to secure. Fold the wings down to resemble a dove in flight. Enhance the ornaments with faux white feathers if you desire, and glue two small beads to either side of the shape as eyes.
