EU Research Grants
The European Union (EU) is a rich source of material for researchers interested in exploring unions between countries. Since its beginnings nearly 20 years ago, the European Union has expanded to include 27 states, as of 2010, as well as a number of affiliated countries. While research projects about the European Union can be expensive to fund, as they often require multinational travel, a wide number of grants exist for organizations and for individuals working on their own projects.

Getting to Know Europe
-
"Getting to Know Europe" grants were created for institutions in the United States to develop a series of events centered around the European Union. The grant seeks to explain the function and activities of the European Union on an international stage, as well as encourage EU-US relations. Many institutions are eligible to apply, including schools, community groups and chambers of commerce. Grant guidelines for 2010 specify that activities must occur between January 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012. Approximately 12 100,000€ grants will be awarded, which should cover a maximum of 75 percent of project expenses. Applicants should be able to provide at least one-quarter of the project funding themselves.

Fulbright
-
The nine-month long Fulbright research grant allows individual researchers the opportunity to pursue European Union-based research in one or more of the EU member countries (preference is given to applicants who wish to conduct research in at least two member countries). No prior language ability is required, though it is an asset in day-to-day life and is required for projects that make up part of a Master's program in addition to research. Potential applicants must be affiliated with an academic or research institution in a member country before applying. U.S. citizens who live in the European Union at the time of application are not eligible to apply, and grants are not given for participation in European Union internships.
