What Are Some Good Work at Home Careers?
Working from home takes focus and motivation. It frees up time to spend with family and provides the freedom to work when you choose. People working from home only work the jobs they choose, which leads to overall satisfaction in their chosen career. For parents who want to be home for their children, this allows them to both provide for their family and raise their children. There is no need to commute or pay for childcare.

Virtual Assistant
-
Virtual assistants (VA) are people who choose to work from home while still providing clients with their services via the Internet and other telecommunication methods. Most VAs work with an online agency that provides leads to jobs. They are independent contractors who provide clients with the same administrative, practical and innovative support from home they would going into the office and working for that client. VAs can hold an abundant wealth of experience through educational and work experience. The assignments accepted by VAs vary widely. For example, a VA with a business degree may decide to work as a project manager, whereas a VA with an accounting degree may work as a virtual accountant.
Freelance Writer
-
Writing freelance gives writers an opportunity to work as independent contractors and to choose only the assignments that are of interest to them. Having a passion for writing is a great characteristic because it takes researching and reading comprehension skills to write what is gathered from other sources. Simply put, writers perform research to gain factual information and valid detail, utilizing sources such as newspaper accounts, Internet searches, and other means for writing projects based on personal interest and writing specialty.

Medical Transcriptionist
-
Most medical transcriptionist jobs require years of experience to be able to have the experience required by online agencies that employ them. One way around this is to take a course through a school, such as Career Step. The school offers a medical transcriptionist program where you work at your own pace, but you must complete it within 12 months. If a student is able to work full time on the program it can take as little as four months. The extensive training gained through this program offers enough dictation experience to qualify those choosing to start working from home right away. The program runs $2,375 for tuition as of 2010. As a medical transcriptionist, individuals will listen to physician's recordings on patient conditions and transcribe them into reports to be used for administrative purposes. Career Step does provide the transcription foot pedal and software used by professional medical transcriptionists.
Call Center Representative
-
To be a call center representative, you don't need much experience. Representatives need to set time aside and have access to a quiet environment. This is very important, because you can be fired for audible distractions. Calls are routed to your home from companies wishing to employ your services. Choosing your own assignments is not an option as a call center rep. The types of calls received will vary on the organization that employs you. You may only take orders, do sales or handle customer service calls.
