Military Wife Grants
The military and some private and public organizations believe that military spouses serve along with their servicemember. Because of this, these organizations have increased and created grant programs for military wives in various fields. Some of these areas include education and sports; and there are also programs for surviving spouses in the event of a death.

Education
-
The Department of Labor and the Department of Defense have worked jointly to offer tuition assistance to military spouses. Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts is a program offering up to $6,000 per academic year to offset the costs of tuition, certification exams and books. There are also branch-specific programs available. For example, the Air Force Association offers a grant program of up to $2,500 for tuition for spouses to work toward an associate, bachelor's or postgraduate degree. Visit your post's education center to see what grants and scholarships are available for the specific branch of the military with which you are affiliated.
Nursing
-
There are many grants and scholarships available to spouses who want to pursue careers in nursing. Federal and state governments, as well as private and public organizations fund these grants. Some of these include the Emergency Nurses Association Foundation undergraduate scholarship, Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association general scholarships and the National Nursing Scholarship.

Sports
-
There are also grant programs available for spouses who have an interest in or who participate in competitive sports. Our World Underwater Scholarship Society awards scholarships for those pursuing careers related to scuba diving. The Pro Bowlers Association allots money for competitive bowlers and the Byron Nelson scholarship is for spouses who show an interest in golf.
Survivor Grants
-
Unfortunately, some military spouses experience the death of their servicemember. Funds available for surviving spouses include the Pension for Surviving Spouses and Children, a grant that provides money to surviving family members who are in need. This is a general death grant designated to the survivors of those who have fought in a war. For those who qualify, different amounts are awarded depending on need and family size. Grant awards can be used to help the family get back on its feet during a difficult time.
