Medical License Requirements in Tennessee
Medical licensing ensures that medical doctors meet certain legal requirements before practicing medicine. Each state has a medical licensing board that determines the requirements for their particular state.
Becoming licensed as a medical doctor in Tennessee requires an application as well as certain other requirements to be met. Medical doctors in Tennessee are licensed by the State of Tennessee Department of Health.

Medical School

To become licensed as a medical doctor in Tennessee, graduation from an accredited medical school is required. Medical schools are accredited by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
Medical License Examination

You must pass a medical license examination are required for a medical doctor to be licensed in Tennessee. Examinations include the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX).

Postgraduate Training

Tennessee requires at least one year of postgraduate training after finishing medical school.
Application and Other Materials

The licensing application must be completed and sent to the Tennessee State Medical Board. Along with the application, two letters of recommendation are required as well as a $410 application fee.
Transcripts from all medical schools attended as well as postgraduate institutions are also required. Two recent photographs of the applicant are also needed. Read the application carefully as certain parts of it must be notarized before it is mailed in.
