Ideas for Voice Mail Greetings

Ideas for Voice Mail Greetings thumbnail
You can use many creative voice mail options on your phone.

Your voicemail message is personal to you and gives you a chance to show off your personality. Your phone can generate messages by giving either your name or number to the caller so he knows he called the right number. However, you can use many different ways to add a personal touch to your messages and even give your callers a laugh when they can not reach you.

  1. Hotlines

    • Impersonate a hotline on your voicemail. For example, start with something like, "Hello, you have reached the rejection hotline" and continue the message by telling the person he has been rejected but if he still wants to try, then leave his name and number. Or if you want to have an encouraging message hotline try, "Hello, you have reached the hug a day giveaway hotline. Leave you name, number and location and someone will come by to hug you shortly." You can create a fictitious hotline for just about anything.

    Funny

    • Many funny voicemail options exist that span all kinds of humor. One example of a dry humor voicemail is to start like it is a normal voicemail and then elaborate: "Hello, you have reached (name). I can't come to the phone, but if you leave your name, number, message, address, social security number, mother's maiden name, favorite color, marital status, height, weight and eye color I will be sure to get back to you." You can also make your voicemail its own person by having a message like, "Oh, hello, (name) isn't here, but I'd be happy to talk with you for awhile." Having two people tell a joke, like a knock knock joke, is another great way to have a funny voicemail. Cute messages are funny as well. Like, "Hello, you have reached (name). Say something nice and I'll call you back."

    Tricks

    • Many people hate trick voice mails, but these recordings may result in some funny messages. These are the messages where it starts out with something like, "Hey! What's up?" Pause. "I'm good, man. Hey, can you hold on one minute? Thanks." Long pause. Then, "Hi, you have reached (name)'s phone. Leave a message and I'll call you back." Or have a generic message, but say a different name. For example, if your name is Cindy, have a message that says, "Hi, you have reached Rita's phone."

    Classic Ideas

    • Since many people do receive business calls, you can have a generic message, but still make it sound like your own. Add a special greeting you may use, like "Howdy" instead of "Hello" and make sure to be enthusiastic on the message. Include your name and the information you want to be left on the message (i.e. name, number, message, etc.).
