Hunter Education Courses in Southeast Texas
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) certifies 30,000 adult and youth hunters in Texas annually. Hunter education courses offered in a variety of educational formats need be taken only once in the lifetime of a Texas resident hunter.
Certifications awarded to hunters in Texas are recognized as an acceptable hunter education requirement by all states and Canadian provinces that require hunters to possess hunter education certifications.

Firearms Hunter Education

Firearms education classes are taught online and in person. Traditional, two-day hunter education courses for those planning to hunt with firearms are offered at various locations in Beaumont during July and August; in Orange during July; Port Arthur during the months of July through September; Lake Jackson during the months of August through October; and, in Willis during August.
Courses throughout the greater Houston area can be found in Houston, Sugar Land, Pearland, Humble, Katy, Tomball, and Conroe. Houston area courses are offered from July through October.
An online course combined with a one-day field course is another hunter education option for firearms hunters in southeast Texas. Field courses are held in various locations and months in Friendswood, Houston, Lake Jackson, Orange, Sugar Land and Webster.

Bowhunting Hunter Education

Bow hunting education courses are offered in Conroe and Willis. Bow hunters in southeast Texas can attend traditional two-day bow hunting courses or take a one-day home study course. Two-day courses are offered in Willis in mid-August and Conroe in mid-September. Home study courses take place in Friendswood August through December.

Education in Spanish and for the Hearing Impaired

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department offers hunter education classes to hunters that are Spanish-speaking or hearing impaired. Spanish-speaking hunters that reside in southeast Texas can attend courses in Austin or College Station.
Classes in Austin are offered in August, October, and February. The College Station class is held in September. The only class offered for the hearing impaired takes place in the Big Spring during October.
