Monroe is a midsized town located in northeast Louisiana. With a population topping 50,000 residents, the city is the eighth-largest in the state. Cloyd's is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences as well as the State of Louisiana Board of Cosmetology. Pat Goins Beauty School is a private, for-profit institution with one location in Monroe and three others in the nearby cities of Shreveport, Bossier and Ruston. The school offers hands-on training in hair styling that can prepare students for eventual careers as professional cosmetologists and barbers. It offers a cosmetology course, a cosmetology instructor course and a manicurist course. The cosmetology course teaches students about the theories and practical skills involved with shampooing, cutting and shaping hair. The Delta-Ouachita campus is located in West Monroe offers a barber-styling program that awards graduates with a diploma. Students in the barber-styling program study the history of barbering, sanitation, bacteriology, safety with barbering tools, basic men's haircutting theory and basic women's haircutting theory. Students are also expected to complete a laboratory component that includes actual time spent in a barber setting.
