Hygiene Crafts for Kids
Teaching children proper hygiene at an early age will set them up for a lifetime of good sanitary habits. Parents can be proactive in teaching their children about how to stay clean and healthy. Creating hygiene themed kids crafts is an activity parents can use to get kids involved in their own cleanliness. As you create each craft, discuss with your child the reasons why hygiene is so important.

Smiley-Face Tooth Pillow
-
Using two pieces of white felt, trace the shape of a tooth. Cut out the shapes and apply a thin strip of all-purpose glue around the outer border leaving a 2-inch portion without glue as the opening. Allow drying. Stuff the pillow with cotton balls and glue the opening close. Allow to dry. Use fabric safe paint to add facial features such as eyes, a nose and a smile.
This craft teaches your child that a clean tooth is a happy tooth. Tell your child a story about the importance of clean teeth as they cuddle up with the pillow at bed time.
“Hand” Towel
-
A plain white hand towel can be turned into a colorful “hand” towel in no time at all. Wash the hand towel and allow for complete drying. Lay the towel flat on a hard surface protected by sheets of newspaper. Using fabric paint and a paintbrush, apply a thick layer of paint to your child’s hand. Have your child press his hand onto the towel to leave an imprint. Repeat until the towel has handprints all over it. Use different colors for more contrast. Follow the directions on the fabric paint bottle for the proper setting methods for the painted towel.
This craft teaches the importance of hand washing to stay healthy. Hang it in reach of your child so that he can dry off every time he washes his hands.

Sudsy Soap Hearts
-
Pure glycerin soap can easily be melted in a microwave and molded into a kid-friendly shape. Cut a bar of glycerin soap into four equal pieces. Place the pieces into a microwave-safe container and melt on high for intervals of 15 seconds until liquid. Fill a heart-shaped ice cube tray with the liquid. Allow setting for 30 minutes. Gently pop out the soap from the ice cube tray.
This craft teaches your child that he can love getting clean while also forming good hygiene habits. Experiment with different ice cube tray molds to modify this craft.
