Seashell Art Craft Activities for Kids
Seashell arts and crafts are easy and inexpensive activities to do with children and will keep them occupied for hours with the variety of different projects you can create. Bring your child to the beach and collect different types of shells that you can use for these various projects. Make sure that your child is careful when handling the shells, since they might be broken and may have sharp edges that can easily cut someone.

Seashell Picture Frame
-
This picture frame is a simple craft project that children ages 3 and older can make. Buy a cheap picture frame of any material (wooden or plastic) at any drug or art store. To glue the seashells onto the picture frame, use non-toxic craft glue or if you want a sure way to have them stick, use a glue gun. If you choose to use a glue gun, make sure that you are the only one handling it, since it can be very dangerous for children and can easily burn them. Stick different types of shells around the frame for a more abstract look or if there are enough of the same shells, create a pattern on the frame.
Seashell Tea Candles
-
This art project requires a bit more concentration and is best for children who are 8 years old and older. These candles can make the perfect mother's day gift or a birthday gift for someone special. Make sure that you find seashells that are large enough to contain the wax from a tea candle. Turn a tea candle upside down so you can easily remove the candle and wick from its metal base. Place the wick in the center of the seashell before you pour the melted wax into the shell. The best way to melt the candle into liquid wax is over the stove top. You can also put it in the microwave and heat it for about eight minutes, but make sure that you keep a close eye on it. If you want different colored candles, buy a variety of different-colored tea candles.

Seashell Wind Chime
-
This project take a bit of concentration and patience, so it is best suited for children who are at least 8 years old. Use a tool with a pointy edge and carefully drill a hole into each of the shells you are planning to use. Use a sturdy thread or colorful ribbon to hang the shells on a stick. Make sure that the shells are close enough to each other so they can touch and make some sound. Tie a knot after you string a shell onto the thread to make sure it stays. To make sure that your wind chime will make music, stick several shells on the same string. This way you can be sure that your shells will touch each other and you will not have to worry about hanging the shells all at one length.
