All Irish visa types require a valid passport.

Applying for and obtaining a visa can be a daunting, whether you are visiting a country for the first time or have been to the country before. This is certainly no different with Irish visas. Therefore, you may find an understanding of the different Irish visa types helpful, especially since this may help you better prepare for your visa application.

  1. Short-term Stays

    • Irish consular offices issue the Visit/Holiday Visa for individuals interested in entering the country for various short-term stays. Typically, the maximum duration you can live in the country under this status is 90 days. Short-term stay visas are not renewable.

Some of the requirements for this status include a passport with at least six-month validity, full details about the nature and length of your trip and hotel booking confirmation, if you plan to stay in a hotel during your stay in Ireland. If you are applying from a location that is not your country of citizenship, you must provide proof of your legal status, which must have a minimum validity of three months. For example, if you are a foreign national and you are applying from the United States, you must provide proof of your valid U.S. visa; the U.S. visa’s validity must be at least three months. Other requirements include an invitation letter from an Irish reference, if you plan to stay at a private dwelling and a written undertaking by you and your reference agreeing to comply with the terms and conditions of your visa.

    Business Stays

    • If you are interested in visiting Ireland for business purposes, such as a business trip, the Business visa may be appropriate for you. Generally, before an Irish consular officer approves your visa, you must demonstrate through your application materials that your employer and the Irish company have had prior business communication.

Other requirements include an invitation letter from the Irish company detailing the purpose and dates of your visit, as well as full contact details. Your employer must also provide you with a letter confirming reinstatement of your position upon your return from the business trip. A letter from your employer stating that you are conducting business on their behalf is also helpful.

    Employment in Ireland

    • The Employment visa allows you to enter the country for employment purposes. Before an Irish consular officer can approve your application, you must have a passport with a minimum validity of one year, a letter from an Irish employer stating the position offered to you and the salary. An employment contract, if available, is also helpful for your application.

One of the benefits of this visa is that you can bring your spouse and children younger than 18 years of age to Ireland after you have completed at least one year in the country and your work permit has been extended for another 12 months. Before bringing your family to join you in Ireland, you must demonstrate through your salary that you have sufficient financial resources to support them.
