Design Display Store Window Ideas
When you’re headed into a shop with a list in hand, you may not stop to think twice about what’s in the store’s window. But other times, when you’re just window shopping or strolling around, store windows may call out to you with inspirational ideas, suggestions and attention-grabbing options to invite you inside. Because stores are often one of a long line of shops on a street, they must step up their window displays to compete for customers.

What’s Old is New
-
While many store display windows feature rotating exhibition of the newest items, jump on the “everything old is new again” bandwagon by creating your display featuring both old and new items. Customers may enjoy seeing that some of their old favorites are still stocked (this may be especially true for makeup companies, who are contacted by followers drafting campaign letters to bring back discontinued hues) and also get an idea of the latest offerings. The old/new idea works well in just about any kind of store setting. Consider a hardware display, for example, with a small section of the window featuring faucets, paneling and other accessories used to deck out a home in the 1950s, which makes the items on sale today look almost space age. Even if your store doesn’t sell the old-style items but wants to feature them to grab attention for your new stock, check your back catalogs, auction sites or consider making faux versions of the items out of craft supplies.
Captivating Color
-
No matter if your store sells just one kind of item or an entire range of things from clothes to home goods to car accessories, you can create a window display that actually has an effect on shopper behavior. This is through the idea of color theory, where different colors are associated with different impulses, feelings and behaviors. Websites such as Goldin Universe state that colors can affect the way people spend money; with red-orange, royal blue and black causing the most impulse buys. Create your window with these hues in mind; gather a variety of objects featuring these colors and cluster them together, creating a section for each shade or layering the colors together. Another option is to deck out your window entirely of goods with a single color. If you’ve got many items in purple, you may find success in displaying them, as the color is associated with royalty and dignity, something that may strike a chord in your shoppers.

Scene Stealer
-
Attract attention from movie buffs and Hollywood aficionados when you design your store display window to recreate a famous film scene. This sounds more involved than it has to be; much of your design may be painted on a large bed sheet or roll of paper to form the backdrop and your own store goods can serve as props. Check websites such as the Internet Movie Database for inspiration, then let your mind run wild as you brainstorm how to deck out the window. If your store uses mannequins, you’re already partway there, with “lead roles” ready to take part in your window. Dress them in clothes or accessories from your store similar to those from the film (such as trench coats in “Casablanca”) and let the credits, and customers, roll into your store.
