Cowboy Room Themes for Kids thumbnail
There are several different variations you can use for a cowboy room theme.

A cowboy theme is an authentic and rustic look for a child’s room. It is a creative theme that will give your child visions of the Wild West. There are a variety of different cowboy themes you can use as inspiration for your child’s cowboy room. Decide what element of the cowboy theme that interests him most, and use that as a focal point for the room. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Horses

    • A cowboy’s most trusty companion is his loyal steed, and if your child has a special interest in the magnificent animals, it is a perfect cowboy room theme. Begin by finding a horse and cowboy themed comforter. If you cannot find one you like, buy a neutral colored comforter and iron or sew horse images on the bed pillows. Mix in cow prints as well to add a little extra color. Decorate the walls with oversized horseshoes and rope. Add artwork that depicts John Wayne with his horse, the Lone Ranger with his horse, and even Woody and his horse Bullseye from "Toy Story." If you are artistic, create a mural on one wall with a silhouette of a cowboy on his horse, riding off into the sunset.

    Cowboy Outlaw

    • If it’s the “bad boy” image that appeals to your little cowboy, dedicate your room to the outlaws of the Wild West. Take a picture of your child posing with a straight or mean face, and make your own “Wanted” poster. These can also be designed and purchased online at places such as the Glass Giant website. Fill tan colored paper sacks with crumbled newspaper, tie them shut with a piece of rope and paint a black dollar sign on the front. Make a pile of these in one corner. Decorate the room with images of famous cowboys. Sketch a fake jail cell window in one corner of the room by painting a landscape view, then adding gray stripes on top to look like jail bars.

    Wild West

    • The Wild West is one of the most exciting aspects of the cowboy culture. Turn you child’s room into a replica of that time. Use sand or neutral colored carpeting to resemble the dusty streets of a western town. On two opposing walls of the room, paint a mural that looks like shops and businesses along the street in the Wild West. Include a blacksmith shop, a barber and a saloon. If you have carpentry skills, turn the door of the room into a swinging door, much like you’d find in the Wild West. Write various Western sayings on the wall, such as “Howdy Partner” and “Giddy-up!”
