Paralegals work within the justice system, assisting lawyers and clients.

Paralegals provide legal services such as preparing documents, assisting lawyers in planning cases, preparing clients for court hearings and interviewing witnesses, but they can't provide legal advice, practice law or represent clients in court. They must perform their legal duties under the supervision of an attorney, according to the New York University website. The American Bar Association recognizes the top-ranked paralegal programs.
