Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

    • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employs more than 80 veterinarians, and many are assigned to overseas posts in such areas like China or Zimbabwe. Veterinarians with the organization work in a wide range of areas. Many focus on such disciplines as bioterrorism, environmental health, food safety and viral and bacterial diseases. Because there has been a global increase of human diseases that first originated in animals and insects, veterinarians with the CDC play a critical role. Diseases like SARS, monkeypox, West Nile and avian flu generate media attention, and the CDC has found that veterinarians have helped explore how human and animal health concerns are linked.
