To the average kid, the life of a Hollywood movie star looks glamorous and care free. Kids love to imagine what it would be like to be rich and famous, or to be on screen in their favorite film. These movie-star themed crafts offer an afternoon full of glitz and audience acclaim. You can almost smell the popcorn and hear the rattle of the projector rolling.

Every kid in the room will feel like a winner when you help them create their own version of the famous gold statue given out at the Academy Awards. You will need a wide variety of edible craft items including marshmallows, pretzel sticks, graham crackers, candy, cookies and rice cakes -- though you can substitute other sweets you have available. You will also need 6 cups of powdered sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Start by pouring the sugar into a bowl and adding half of your water. Stir into a paste. Keep adding water to get the concoction to the consistency of a sticky frosting. Give the kids a rice cake or graham cracker to use as the base of the statue. They can use the frosting to attach items to the base. For example, halved pretzel sticks can be legs and arms, marshmallows can be the body and a gumball makes a great head.

Walk of Fame

No trip to Hollywood would be complete without a visit to the famous Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. Countless icons in cinema royalty have left their hand prints and carved their names into the sidewalk, a tradition since 1960. Your children can create their own stars to display on the wall. You will need wax paper, ribbon, a toothpick, a straw, 3 feet of aluminum foil, 2 cups baking soda, 1 cup corn starch and 1 cup of water. Start by making a clay-type mixture; this will involve mixing together the baking soda, corn starch and water in a small pot on the stove. Keep stirring until it is fully mixed. Remove from heat and set aside. Fold the aluminum foil lengthwise inch by inch until it is one long, inch-thick strip. Fold the strip into the shape of a star. Give each kid a star and place it on the wax paper. Pour the cooled mixture into the star shape and instruct the kids to use their fingers to push mixture into edges. Place their hands into the mixture. Give them a toothpick to write their name. Use the straw to poke a hole for hanging later with the ribbon. Allow the creation to dry overnight.

Movie Poster

Kids can think up the next biggest blockbuster and then bring their ideas to life in their own cinema poster. You will need a roll of white paper, scissors and markers. Break the kids into groups or allow them to work alone. Have each group of kids come up with an idea for a movie. Next, use the scissors to cut a length of the paper abound 5 feet long. Have a child lie on the paper and have others trace the outline of his body. Give them the markers to add a title to the poster and decorate the it as they wish. Suggest the kids come up with a release date. Make sure the kids add the names of the poster creators in small print at the bottom of the poster.

Star-Quality Glasses

Every Hollywood star and starlet needs the perfect pair of sunglasses for a photo-op. Kids can create their own unique set of shades in a fun project for self-expression. You will need a pair of solid-colored sunglasses, foam stickers or regular stickers, puffy paint, construction paper, scissors and glue. Help the kids use the scissors to cut shapes into the construction paper. Some ideas are stars, hearts, guitars, animals, surfboards or diamonds. They can paste the shapes onto the frames or around the lenses. Kids can continue to decorate with stickers or puffy paint. When they are finished, they can wear the sunglasses for an epic photo.
