Macaroni Crafts for Kids

Macaroni pasta is not only a tasty dinner option but a fun craft item as well. Dry macaroni is non-toxic and tolerates being handled so you can string them on necklaces or paste them into artwork. Use different types of macaromi in its variety of shapes in all sorts of crafts.

Necklace

  • Color macaroni noodles by putting two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol and a few drops of food coloring into a plastic sandwich bag with dry noodles. The color should thoroughly cover the macaroni noodles. Allow the macaroni to air dry. String the macaroni onto yarn or thread to create the necklace. Wrapping a piece of tape around one end of the necklace will allow the macaroni to slide on easier. Tie the ends of the necklace together, leaving room to slip it over the head.

Picture Frame

  • Clean out the inside of a peanut butter jar lid, and cut a photo to fit the lid. Tape the photo inside the lid, and glue macaroni noodles around the rim of the frame. Paint the noodles different colors with craft paint. Glue or tape a piece of yarn to the back of the frame to hang it up.

Paintings

  • Create designs by gluing noodles onto construction paper. Spell out words or make flowers or birds. Paint over the noodles once you have glued them to add color to your painting. Allow the macaroni to dry thoroughly before hanging the picture.

Tambourine

  • Paint two paper plates. Place some macaroni on one paper plate, filling the plate about a quarter of the way. Place the second paper plate over it, and staple the plates together around the rims. Use a hole puncher to create holes going around the tambourine, and string yarn or ribbon through the holes to decorate your instrument.
