Homemade gifts leave more of an impression than store-bought gifts, so choose your project wisely. Homemade gifts take time and energy to make, so plan your gift days in advance so that you are not rushing through the creative process. Making a homemade gift for your friend imprints your own touch and allows you to tailor the gift to your friend's personal taste.

Create body scrubs, massage oil, body butter or lip balm using kitchen ingredients and essential oils from the health food store. Simply find a homemade recipe online and create it using the ingredients listed, along with a few drops of your essential oil of choice. If the gift is for a guy, use sandalwood or peppermint as the essential oil. If your friend has sensitive skin, use a high-quality vanilla extract instead of an essential oil. If you made a lip balm, put it into a small fabric sachet. If you made a scrub or a body butter, tie the neck of the jar with wide ribbon or several pieces of Victorian lace to make it look fancy, or wrap it with colorful tulle. Make three different bath or body products and tightly secure them so they don't leak. Wrap them all together with cellophane and tie with several ribbons, curling each one.

If you have a knack for baking and your friend has a sweet tooth, create a baked good or candy to make her smile. To emphasize the presentation of your cookies, cake, bread or candy, prepare a special cellophane wrap or cookie box. Art and crafts stores sell several types of paper containers for baked goods. For a whimsical touch, decorate the outside of the box one day prior to wrapping using photocopied pictures of you and your friend and cellophane tape. Use a wide, solid-colored ribbon to tie around the box for an ultimate gift with wrapping paper to get attention.

Spoil your friend without breaking the budget by creating a homemade jewelry gift. Find the tools you need at a craft store to create chain necklaces, bracelets, earrings and simple cords with pendants. Use your knowledge of your friend's personality and tastes to select pendants meaningful to her. Choose the same or similar pendant for yourself to represent your friendship's bond. Attach charms all around a chain bracelet, with each charm representing an aspect of your friend's personality. Create a piece of jewelry to match your friend's astrological sign; if her sign is Virgo, use blue crystals to represent her sapphire birthstone. If she is an Aries, her birthstone is diamond, so use diamond-like crystals.
