Federal Express, commonly known as FedEx, is a large freight-handling company based in Memphis, Tennessee. FedEx ships cargo by air, land and sea to every continent on Earth. As the operator of FedEx Express, which is the world's largest airline in terms of tons of freight flown, FedEx offers a myriad of jobs related to air transportation and aviation.

According to Airline Pilot Central, FedEx currently employs more than 4,000 pilots, including both captains and first officers, or FOs. FedEx pilots must possess an Airline Transport Pilot certificate along with thousands of hours of flight time. FedEx pilots are based in Memphis, Tennessee; Anchorage, Alaska; Los Angeles, California and Hong Kong, but they may live anywhere in the world due to an agreement that allows FedEx pilots to catch other airlines' flights (free of charge) for the purposes of commuting. Pilot pay varies widely based on position (captain or FO) and years with the company, but the average salary as of spring 2010 started at more than $122,000, according to the website Glassdoor.com.

Aircraft mechanics perform repairs, equipment installations, avionics testing and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-required inspections of FedEx aircraft. FedEx aircraft mechanics must possess an FAA mechanic's license with both airframe and power-plant ratings. According to Glassdoor, FedEx aircraft mechanics earned an average of $84,692 annually as of spring 2010.

FedEx dispatchers earned an average of $57,625 per year as of February 2010, according to Glassdoor.
