Garbage Pick Up Tools

Save

There is nothing more unsightly than garbage strewn along streets or in public areas. Many communities are getting together to try and keep this problem under control by adopting highways, blocks, and neighborhoods to pick up garbage that others throw on the ground. There are a few tools that are used to pick up garbage so that people do not have to touch it with their hands.

Paper Pick

  • A paper pick looks like a short spear. This tool has a small barb on the end of the sharp point of the pick that keeps the paper from falling off. Using this tool will help you pick up several pieces of paper before you have to clear the stick. This also saves from bending down and picking up trash, making it a back-saving device that also saves the earth.

Trash Grabber

  • Trash grabbers have a handle on one end of a cane and a spring loaded hand on the other. When the handle is squeezed, the spring loaded hand opens so you can put it over the garbage. When you stop squeezing, the mouth closes again, picking up the garbage. There are a lot of varieties of this tool and it is used extensively by workers at the Department of Forestry and Wildlife.

Sweep Bin

  • A sweep bin is basically a large dust pan that pivots at the top and has a handle about three feet long. A broom is used to sweep garbage into the sweep bin when the bin is placed on the ground, allowing the front to tip forward so the garbage can be swept into it. This is a common janitorial tool, but can be used be any kind of loose garbage cleanup.
