Interviews for science positions are quite involved.

The key to preparing for an interview for a position in science is knowing what questions the interviewer is likely to ask. Also, make sure you know the company for which you are interviewing. Is it a college or university? Research its reputation, and be cognizant of several scientific reports professors there have published. If it is a medical laboratory, researching different medicines that laboratory has developed will be helpful.

Researchers' Main Focus

Interviewers for a position in the scientific field want to know if you know the steps to ensure that a research project is successful. Interviewers also want to know if you have the ability to set priorities regarding every area of research. They want to know if you are an effective team leader who can set guidelines for everyone in the group to ensure that the research is a success. Know the basic elements of research, such as control groups, as well as the parts of the research or experiment you would change.

Old Syllabuses

Think about how you might apply that knowledge in the specific position for which you are interviewing. Ask your former professors for a syllabus for the course you took with them. Also ask about the availability of training. The University of Kent website suggests questions about your duties, the equipment you'll be using and whether you will be working as part of a team. Refrain from any questions about benefits, holidays or salary.
