Schools for Finish Carpentry
Finish carpentry classes are available from many schools across the country for students who just want to take a class or two for pleasure, earn a certificate of completion for a particular program or to get prepared for licensing. Finish carpentry is generally the term for any carpentry work visible when entering a house including, floors, cabinetry, doors, windows, molding, millwork and staircases.

Classes teach the student to work with the specialized tools of the finish carpenter The school was established in 1978 and offers courses in all aspects of homebuilding, including finish carpentry. Many students have little or no carpentry experience and range in age from 12 to 75. Along with developing the skills to work with the tools and learn the techniques of finish carpentry, the school concentrates on developing the student’s eye for quality craftsmanship.

The art of finish carpenty The program at DCCC offers instruction in construction codes and standards, materials and selection, blueprint reading, technical mathematics, framing, job estimating and finish carpentry techniques. After the 21-unit course, the student will receive the Finish Carpentry, Certificate of Competency (CPTC).

Contractor’s State Licensing Services (CSLS)

Courses in finish carpentry can be taken for personal enrichment or professional specialization This school has 25 locations throughout California and prepares students for the California State Licensing Board state exam. Passing this exam is a requirement for a specialty C-6 Cabinet, Millwork & Finish Carpentry license. A license is required in California for anyone operating a carpentry business. In addition to courses on finish carpentry techniques, the CSLS offers coursework in starting a carpentry business, business practices and labor code and safety.

Finish carpentry classes can be taken by the class or as part of a program The Green River Community College offers an Associate Applied Science (AAS) degree in carpentry technology. It is a pre-apprenticeship program that prepares students for advanced placement in carpentry apprenticeships. They also offer certificate programs or students may just take individual specific classes. Courses in finish carpentry include levels one and two residential exterior and interior finish carpentry. There are four campuses throughout Washington.
