New managers face a tough challenge, especially if they’ve never managed before or will be managing employees who were formerly their peers. Management training is designed to provide the skills necessary for new managers to learn not only their new job responsibilities, but also how to manage and develop employees. There are many different types of management training courses available that focus on the various skill sets required to be a good manager.

Leadership Training

  • Managing other people requires knowing how to lead. New managers often go through leadership training to learn the fundamentals of how to be a good leader. This includes how to build, motivate and mold a team of employees. Building a cohesive team is one of the most important skills of a successful manager. New managers can expect to learn different methods for creating unity within a team, whether it be on the job, in meetings, or outside of the workplace. One increasingly popular method is one in which employers take workers out of the office and put them in new environments (such as a ropes course or a confidence course). Coaching Training

  • Managers must be good coaches. They must understand how to motivate, develop and guide their employees to success. Coaching training focuses on building the skills necessary to become a good coach for your employees. This includes conducting one-on-one sessions with employees, providing timely feedback on poor performances, and developing motivational tools to help employees reach their goals.

Conducting Performance Reviews

  • Writing and delivering performance reviews can be one of the more challenging jobs of a manager, especially if the review is less than favorable. Learning how to write and deliver a performance review is essential training for new managers. The fundamentals of a performance review, the critical elements, and tips for delivery are all typically included in this training.

Handling Conflict

  • New managers must be able to deal with conflict quickly and effectively, irrespectice of the positions of the parties involved. Conflict training provides new managers with the tools to handle any tricky situations that may arise. This training focuses on assertiveness and communication skills.

Presentation Training

  • Managers are frequently required to give presentations to their employees, fellow managers, as well as superiors. Presentation training provides the techniques necessary to become an effective presenter. This training includes presentation mediums, areas of content, as well as the tone and manner of presenting.

Sexual Harassment

  • Managers must be aware of and knowledgeable about sexual harassment in the workplace. Any purported harassment will likely be reported to the manager first, therefore there must be a clear understanding of what action to take. Training in this area includes an overview of the laws governing sexual harassment, as well as the proper procedure to follow when it’s reported in the workplace.
