Ideas for the room of a little girl who wants to be a princess

Little girls often dream of being a princess in a fairy tale. Little girls with this dream also often adore the color pink. Creating a pink princess-themed room might seem cliche to creative moms. Painting all the walls pink may also not be an option. There are several ways of providing your little girl with her "dream-come-true" room, without creating a cliched and overwhelming design.

Canopy Bed

A princess room is not complete without a canopy bed. This is a furniture piece that many little girls dream of possessing. You don't have to purchase a high-cost bed to get this effect. Instead, purchase billowy pink fabric and hang it like a canopy over the bed. You can also use pink netting to create this effect. Put matching or similar bedding on the canopy bed as well.

Sleeping Beauty

If your little girl likes Disney and wants to stick with a pink princess theme, then Aurora from Disney's Sleeping Beauty might be a good inspiration for decorating without overusing the more well-known princesses. Aurora is often depicted wearing a bright pink dress and a princess tiara. Disney offers many decorating products for most of their characters. You can find Aurora-themed decor at department stores, online or at specialty stores.

Color Shades

If your little girl is set on making everything pink you might worry that you are going to overwhelm everyone who enters the room. There are ways of decorating with one color without it being overbearing. Decorate symmetrically with different shades of pink from pastel, hot pink, rose to dark pink. Use color shades as your guide to making it appear like there is more than one color in the room.

Furniture

If you don't want to paint the walls pink, then you can get pink furniture that would complement a princess-themed room. If you can't find pink furniture pieces or matching shades, then you can get wood furniture and paint them pink yourself. Furniture to think about placing in a princess-themed room include a vanity table, dresser, toy trunk, bookcases, round tables, lamps and rocking chairs.

Lighting

Hang a chandelier in the middle of the room to add to the princess feel in the room. If you are hesitant about spending the money or placing such an adult piece in your child's room, remember that chandeliers do not have to be expensive pieces of luxurious and artistic design. You can purchase chandeliers in materials as inexpensive as plastic, specifically designed for children's rooms.
