Showing that you have strong communication skills is a sure way to do well in a interview.

Job prospects for customer service representatives are good, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics. A customer service representative provides a link between customers and the company's services or products. Doing well in a customer service interview requires that you demonstrate attributes such as good communication and problem-solving skills. The best way to do well in an interview is to begin preparing at least a week in advance.

  1. Practicing for the Interview

    • Consider what qualifies you for the job. A customer service job requires constant interaction with people and good communication and problem-solving skills. Research the company and learn its mission statement. Conduct a mock interview with a friend or family member. Tell the "interviewer" to pose an issue that may occur on the job, such as a customer's dissatisfaction with a product. Come up with solutions to assist the customer. Have several practice interviews. Ask the mock interviewer to give you pointers on how you can improve.

Employers seek someone with a clear, pleasant-sounding voice. Purchase a tape recorder and record yourself speaking. Play the recording back to see what you need to work on, such as projection and articulation.

    Tailoring Your Resume

    • Tailor your resume around your experience and qualities that would make you a strong customer service representative. Emphasize your communication skills, education and ability to solve problems. Many employers will ask you to elaborate on particular parts of the resume during the interview.

    The Day of the Interview

    • First impressions are important, so wear business attire to the interview. A coat and tie are appropriate for men, while a dress or pants suit is suitable for women. When you greet the interviewer, make eye contact and shake hands. Show you possess the necessary skills by speaking clearly, being attentive and presenting solutions to problems that may arise on the job. Answer each question thoroughly. Show that you are focused by nodding your head when the interviewer makes a statement. Ask questions about the job. This will allow you additional opportunities to explain why you qualify.
