Reclaimed Barn Wood Crafts

You can purchase reclaimed barn wood at some well stocked craft or hardware stores

Crafters often use antique, reclaimed wood to create quaint decorative items. Often reclaimed barn wood is from an old family barn that has significant personal meaning. Reusing it is a way of commemorating and remembering the past. You can use reclaimed wood in a variety of ways for home decor or other craft projects.

  1. Picture Frame

    • Picture frames are relatively easy to make and the reclaimed wood can help add a vintage look to a vintage picture. Simply hammer or glue four strips of wood together to make the frame. Then, use epoxy glue to glue a piece of glass to plastic to the back. Finally, add four metal photo corners to hold the picture in place. You can hang the reclaimed wood picture frame on a wall in your home or prop it up against a bookshelf.

    Bookend

    • If your reclaimed barn wood is particularly heavy, you can use it as a bookend. Simply cut a piece of wood according to the size of the shelves in your bookshelf. Then either sand the bottom of the reclaimed wood or glue a piece of felt to it to prevent it from scratching your shelf.

    Plaque

    • Because reclaimed barn wood is often old, it is particularly useful in commemorating the past. You can use reclaimed wood to make a plaque to commemorate a community, family or school event. Engrave a piece of metal and drill it onto the reclaimed wood.

    Carved Name

    • Many homes have a sign that displays the family name of the residents. Using reclaimed wood can help add a rustic decor to your home. Trace your family name onto a piece of wood in pencil. Then use carving implements to carve the letters into the wood. The letters will show up better if your wood still has paint on it.
