The Advantages of Working Part Time
Many people seek to strike a balance between the amount of time they work and the amount of time they enjoy their life with friends and family. Too much work can make it seem like you never leave the office, while too little work can leave you strapped for cash. Working part-time is one way to keep part of your life focused on your career so you can spend the rest of your time with loved ones.

Free Time
-
In theory, the standard work week is 40 hours. But by the time you add travel to and from the office and all of the "extras" the boss requires, that 40 hour work week can easily double. Part-time work is usually defined as someone working less than 20 hours a week, or six months per year. However, on top of the physical time commitment, a lot of part-time employment does not carry the additional responsibilities of salaried employment. You can use that extra time to spend with family and friends, take up hobbies or just enjoy life.
Extra Money
-
In a world where money can always seem tight, working part-time can provide a little extra cash for the household bills every month. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the mean hourly range for part-time workers is $11.34. Over a 20 hour work week, that brings in $226.80 per week or over $11,000 per year, assuming you work 49 weeks. Whether this money finds a way into a savings account, pays household builds, or allows you to splurge on items you would not normally purchase, a little extra cash can add a sense of security to the overall household budget.

Staying Active
-
As many people become empty-nesters or retired, they are looking for some form of hobby to fill their day and spark their interest. Working a part-time job can fulfill both. If you have a hobby you love, seek employment in that area. Not only will it keep your mind sharp, you will interact with a whole new segment of people who share your interest and passion for your hobby. Also, because you are only seeking to work part-time, there is a greater chance that you will be able to obtain such a job on your terms.
