Different Saree Drapes
The Saree or sari is a versatile article of clothing that can be worn for many occasions. Several types of drapes are used. Saree drapes include the Nivi, Gujrati or North Indian, Maharashtrain, Dravidian, Madisaara, Kadagu, Gond, Mundun, Neryathum, and Iribal style. The most common drape is the Nivi style drape.

Nivi Style
-
The Nivi style of Saree draping uses the band of a petticoat. Tuck one end of the Saree into the petticoat band. The Saree is wrapped around the waist twice. The fabric is arranged into even pleats in the ban. The band of the petticoat and Saree ride just below the naval. The loose decorative end of the Saree (also called "pallu") is brought diagonally over the body front. The end is then placed over the left shoulder from front to back and draped. The drape end can be secured into place using a safety pin or decorative pin, if desired.
Gujrati or North Indian Style
-
The Gujrati or North Indian style of Saree drape begins like the Nivi style. The Saree is secured in the petticoat and wrapped twice around the waist. The pleats are arranged and the pallu is brought diagonally across the front torso. The difference between the Gujrait and Navi styles of Saree wrap is the pallu is draped over the right shoulder instead of the left.
Mararashtrian Style
-
The center of the Saree fabric is placed in the center of an individual's back. The Saree is then tied securely around the waist. Each end is wrapped around a leg. The Saree ends are then draped over the shoulders and over the torso.
