Inexpensive Backyard Bar-B-Que Ideas

Save

Time spent with family or friends is always enjoyable and a backyard barbecue is a good reason to bring everyone together. Those on a strict budget may assume that hosting such a party isn’t doable. But you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make your backyard barbecue a big success.

Inexpensive Grub

  • Keep the cost of your food selections low. Start with inexpensive snacks such as dip with potato chips and salsa with nacho chips. For your main fare, serve sausages, chicken and pork chops rather than expensive steaks. Marinate the meat in barbecue sauces, season with barbecue rubs, then cook to delicious perfection on your backyard grill. Or try some satisfying, delicious and easy-on-the-wallet grilled vegetables or veggie skewers. Simply prepare by cutting asparagus spears, cucumber, tomatoes, bell pepper, onions or mushrooms into large chunks, season, place on a skewer, then grill.

Brew Solution

  • Getting the drinks for your guests can very easily get costly. Combat this problem by passing over more expensive alcohol and liquor in favor of inexpensive beer and wine. As the party is an informal backyard barbecue, such beverage selections work well with your theme. Set out metal tubs and buckets and coolers stocked full of ice, beer and red and white wines for partygoers. Or buy a keg of beer, a good way to provide a lot of beer for a low price. Or, simply make it a “BYOB” affair and invite guests to bring whatever beverages they’d like to drink.

Set the Mood

  • Decorating isn’t strictly necessary for a party; an easy way to save money is to just skip this step. But if you do want decorate, you don’t have to spend a lot. Don’t buy pricey items; visit a dollar store for 99-cent bags of balloons and streamers and the like. Or have country-themed backyard barbecue and let guests be the main part of the décor by instructing them to dress western in cowboy boots and hats, jeans and denim skirts and big-buckled belts. Knot handkerchiefs onto the backs of chairs, hang paper lanterns and play country music.
