Graphic Design Schools in Utah
Most Utah colleges and universities provide fine arts programs, but not all of them have graphic design majors. In order to be fully prepared for a career in commercial or graphic art, students will need specific training. Fortunately, a number of Utah schools provide their students with the education needed for a career in graphic design.

The University of Utah, located in Salt Lake City, is one of the largest schools in Utah, with, according to the school’s website, nearly 30,000 students. Within in the school is the College of Fine arts, which offers a degree in Fine Arts with a Graphic Design major. Students who wish to become Graphic Design majors must first complete a year of Studio Art before applying to become a graphic design major. According to the Department of Art & Art History, approximately 70 students apply for 50 seats in the Graphic Design program.

Southern Utah University

Southern Utah University offers a Bachelor's of Fine Arts with a Graphic Design Major. According to "U.S. News & World Report," it was ranked as one of America’s Best Colleges in 2010. It is located in Cedar City, Utah, and has a student population of around 7,000. Admission into a degree granting program in graphic design comes after a student has completed at least 24 credits. The Department of Art and Design says that students must schedule a portfolio review at this point in order to move forward with a degree.

Brigham Young University

Brigham Young University is the largest private university in Utah. The school offers a BFA in graphic design, as well as a BA in Visual Arts with an emphasis in graphic design. The BYU College of Fine Art and Communications is one of the largest in the University, with nearly 4,000 students. However, acceptance into the Department of Visual Arts is competitive. According to the university website, it receives between 350 and 400 applications for only 140 seats in its programs. Individual programs, such as graphic design, may be even more competitive.
